Abstract

Bitola—Prilep Valley is a rather sizeable geographic entity in the middle part of the Crna Reka River Valley, which is the right tributary of the Vardar River. In order to do anthropological research, the author has spent the 1951 —1957 period in 208 villages of that area, while obtain ing information on graveyards. The subject matter is divided into three sections: the oldest sites, the graveyards of the Turkish period, and the graveyards of the most recent period. The paper has general conclusions, one of which being that these monuments reveal important problems which have to be studied in the future, too. However, there is a need for expertise. The author points out that some of the graveyards are deserted and difficult to be studied.
