Abstract

Very little is known about the organization of church life in Byzantine Dalmatia from the destruction of Salona, (at the beginning of the 7th century), to the beginning of the 9th century. Frankish annals only mention bishop from Zadar, Donat, and dux from Zadar Paul (Paulus dux) who were, by the end of 805., on the court of Charlamagne in Didenhofen as the emmisaries of Dalmatians in order to settle relations in Dalmatia which had come temporarily under the Frankish rule.
